Evolve Housing and partner Northcott were proud to be a finalist for the category of innovation in independent living at the NSW Disability Industry Innovation Awards held in Sydney on Wednesday18 September 2013. The awards ceremony recognised individuals and organisations who are actively providing services for persons, families and communities living with a disability.
At the awards ceremony the Minister for Disability Services, the Hon. John Ajaka MLC, congratulated Evolve Housing and Northcott for working together to develop a home in North Parramatta that will support people with disability. On the night, Evolve Housing CEO Andrea Galloway and Northcott CEO Kerry Stubbs joined another 180 representatives from the NSW disability sector to recognise innovations within the disability industry.
The partnership between Evolve Housing and Northcott is funded by the Supported Accommodation Innovation Fund (SAIF) and was the first under this initiative to be awarded the high Platinum Performance Level Compliance rating. The project in North Parramatta officially commenced construction on 8 February 2013 and expected completion is mid November 2013. Once built the home will promote person centred and independent living for people with disability.
Evolve Housing, one of the State’s largest community housing providers, in partnership with RASAID (Ryde Area Supported Accomodation for Intellectually Disabled) are pleased to announce that Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Housing and Homelessness, Senator Doug Cameron and NSW Minister for Ageing and Disability Services and Minister for the Illawarra, John Ajaka, will officallly break ground today (12.30pm Thursday August 8) at the site of a new innovative housing complex at North Ryde, for people with disability.
The development, located in Smalls Road, was funded by the Federal Government, under the Supported Accommodation Innovation Fund (SAIF) and a grant from the NSW Government. Evolve Housing was awarded the high level Platinum Level compliance for the group home design which incorporates Universal Housing Design principles and supports the requirements of the Livable Housing guidelines.
Proudly supported by Wenty Leagues Club, Evolve Housing’s “My Story, my Neighbourhood” Photography Exhibition displayed the photographic talents of our Evolve Housing tenants. Over a course of 5 weeks throughout May and June this year, some of our Evolve Housing tenants participated in a Photography training course. Held at Wentworthville, under the guidance of professional Photographer and local George Voulgaropoulos, participants were taught how to use the most popular form of photo documentation available today, the Digital SLR. Encouraged to document their everyday lives, the Exhibition held at The Holroyd Centre last Wednesday was a testament to both their progress and achievement with the camera. “My Story, My Neighbourhood” successfully encompassed the variety of works that were comprised from a range of social-cultural backgrounds. Evolve Housing, the State’s second largest community housing provider, has congratulated children who have received its Educational Financial Assistance (EFA) awards for the 2012 educational year.
Evolve Housing’s Educational Financial Assistance (EFA) program helps the families of tenants with the cost of educating their children in primary, secondary and tertiary education, while the Physical Activity Scheme (PAS) covers costs for sport. The Chief Executive Officer of Evolve Housing, Andrea Galloway, said a record 225 children from rights across Sydney’s west, received awards at a special ceremony at Auburn Town Hall on Wednesday, April 11. Ms Galloway thanked special guests, the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley, the Member for Auburn and Shadow Minister for Family and Community Services, Barbara Perry and Professor Peter Phibbs, from the University of Western Sydney.

Prime Minister, Julia Gillard visited Northcott Disability Services central office in North Parramatta on 3 April to announce a new housing project based on an innovative accommodation model, for people with a disability in Parramatta.
This is a joint partnership between Evolve Housing and Northcott Disability Services, this project will provide fully accessible, modern and affordable supported accommodation units for people with a disability, supporting people with disabilities to live as valued members of their community.
Evolve Housing has thanked the Federal Member for Chifley, Ed Husic for officially opening its new multi-storey residential housing complex in Mt Druitt. More than 50 guests, including local community and sector stakeholders, Evolve Housing support partners, the project’s architect, trade contractors, local media and tenants attended the event on Wednesday 28 March.
Evolve Housing’s Chief Executive Officer, Andrea Galloway said the new 34-unit complex in Hythe Street, is the first multi-storey unit block identified by Evolve Housing in a high needs area, with 13 units able to be adapted for tenants with disabilities. Ms Galloway said at risk tenants would also be are provided with a range of counselling, training and other social services assistance, through Evolve Housing’s support service partners.

Rugby League legend David Peachey spoke of shared aims and philosophies when he addressed the tenants and staff at our annual general meeting held at Blacktown RSL. David outlined the work of the David Peachey Foundation that helps young indigenous youth reach their full potential whether in educational, sport or cultural endeavours.
Evolve Housing tenants were treated to a special paddle cruise outing this month on the a classic and romatic old style Paddlewheeler. With the beautiful backdrop of the Blue Mountains National Park and Nepean Gorge lucky tenants had a relaxing morning cruising in style. From the comfort of the paddle wheeler, tenants were treated to spectacular views and interesting sights of beautiful flora and fauna.
Parramatta Local Tenant Group hosted a social get together through a bus trip to Berrima on the 10th of June. The attendees who represent tenants from the Parramatta region had a wonderful day out and a delicious lunch. The Parramatta group meet up regularly to discuss a variety of issues as well as plan a variety of social events.

( Move It, Sports Day, April 2011) (Youth Week, April 2011)
In 2011 we are hosting an assortment of events and activities intended to engage our tenants in a wide variety of programs and inititiaves.
In early April to celebrate Youth Week, Evolve Housing and Mission Australia hosted a youth event filled with activities such as Zumba, spray painting, boxing and dj lessons. The event which was well attended highlighted the importance of providing diverse experiences and opportunities for young people in order for them to discover and show case their talents.
While Move It! a sports day on the 15th of April for youngers got hearts pumping. Young people got a chance to try their hands at a number of sporting activities with the AFL running a workshop. The sunny day also provided a delicious BBQ lunch and an excellent catch up for parents and staff.
At Evolve Housing we have started tenant Meet and Greets running every couple of weeks whereby Evolve Housing staff have morning tea with tenants in selected locations. These morning teas are an excellent way for tenants to get to know Evolve Housing staff, share ideas, highlight any issues and get to know their neighbours better.
To celebrate Seniors Week we hosted a getaway to beautiful Mt Tomah in the Blue Mountains. The picturesque gardens with their many exotic and beautiful plants proved to be a wonderful and relaxing day for all that came along. To view photos, click on the images.
On Wednesday the 20th of April, a family picnic day in Parramatta Park was a wonderful get together for families. The picnic was well attended with an easter egg hunt, crafts stall & BBQ lunch.

Housing NSW has announced an amnesty to encourage public housing tenants to declare any previously undeclared income, assets and property ownership. The amensty does not apply to properties owned or managed by registered community housing providers.
